If have a missing front tooth, it can be embarrassing to talk or smile. If you want a permanent solution, you should talk to your dentist about Dental Implants. When you have this procedure done by a cosmetic dentist, your implant will look like a natural tooth and you can get your smile back. Below are some questions that patients often ask about implants.

Q.) I’m interested in getting implants, but aren’t they expensive?

A.) Implants are more costly than other types of dental procedures; however, an implant is permanent and if you take good care of your teeth, your implant will last a lifetime. Even though the initial cost may be more than you really want to pay, you’ll never have to spend any more money on the tooth.

Q.) How long does it take after my surgery to get my implants?

A.) The entire process for implants can take anywhere from six to eight months from start to finish. After you have your surgery, you’ll have to give your jawbone time to fuse to the implant and this normally takes about three to six months. After the second phase of the procedure, when your dentist cuts your gums and attaches the post, you’ll have another wait of about one month. During your next visit to the dentist, he will make impressions of your mouth so your implants can be made. This step usually takes approximately one to two months to complete. During this lengthy process, your dentist can give you a temporary denture to wear.

Q.) Are there any reaons why I may not be able to get Dental Implants?

A.) Most adults are good candidates for implants unless there is a serious medical issue that would prevent them from having this procedure done. The most common reason why people are unable to get implants is because their jawbone is not thick or tall enough or that is has deteriorated. If this is the case, there are other options available such as bone grafting.
